Welcome to the section dedicated to landowners of natural areas

Activé

Natural areas are living, often fragile environments that are subject to specific regulations and management practices depending on the habitats and species present. As a landowner, you may need to take certain steps or precautions before undertaking any work on a parcel of land located in a natural area.

This page brings together useful resources, regulatory information, and contact details to help you better understand the issues related to managing these areas.

Conducting a timber harvest

Timber harvesting is a silvicultural operation that does not compromise the forested status of a parcel. It involves removing some or all of the trees on a parcel, while ensuring that the forested condition is restored.

In some cases, tree cutting and felling require prior authorization. In Haute-Savoie, an application is required under the Forest Code for logging on plots of 1 hectare or more when the harvest exceeds 50% of the standing volume. On slopes steeper than 60%, prior notification is required for all logging operations.

What to Do When You Encounter Invasive Plants?

Certain invasive exotic plants can pose a significant risk to biodiversity, natural habitats, and sometimes even human health.

Their presence can lead to risks such as burns, competition with local flora, disruptions to the reproduction of certain animal species, and much more.
A dedicated guide, produced by the CCPMB and the ONF, highlights six invasive plant species found in the region: learn how to identify them, understand the risks associated with their presence, and take the necessary precautions to limit their spread or eradicate them.

Find out if your property includes a wetland

Wetlands play an essential role in biodiversity, water management, and the balance of natural environments. They are home to numerous habitats and species and also contribute to the quality of life.

A departmental inventory of wetlands was compiled by the Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels de Haute-Savoie (Asters) and is regularly updated with support from the Region and the Department.

This inventory serves as an informational tool for municipalities, land-use planners, and individuals to identify the potential presence of wetlands on a parcel of land. However, it has no regulatory standing and does not claim to be exhaustive.
